Amycus at the shore
Argonautica 2: the Bebryces' king Amycus forces strangers to box and kills them. Polydeuces (Pollux) takes the challenge, breaks him, and the Argonauts scatter the Bebryces. The land is a Bithynian shore. Theocritus Idyll 22 tells the same bout. There is no Bebrycian cult in Greece. The stop is a ritual of hostile hospitality solved with fists, a Dioscuric set-piece before the clashing rocks.
