Obatala

The Orisha of creation, purity, and wisdom. Obatala was tasked by Olodumare with creating land from the primordial waters and shaping human bodies from clay.

Obatala was one of the first Orishas created by Olodumare. He was given the sacred task of creating the earth and molding human forms from clay, into which Olodumare breathed life.

Obatala, whose name means 'King of the White Cloth,' is one of the most important Orishas. He was given the task of creating the physical world and shaping human bodies, making him the father of humanity.

Oduduwa

African Traditions

The progenitor deity of the Yoruba people and legendary first king of Ife. Oduduwa descended from heaven to create the earth and establish human civilization.

When Obatala became intoxicated with palm wine and failed to create the earth, Olodumare sent Oduduwa to complete the task. He descended from heaven on a chain and poured soil on the waters, creating land.

Oduduwa holds a unique position as both a primordial deity and a deified ancestor. According to tradition, he was sent by Olodumare to complete the creation of the earth after Obatala failed in his mission.
