Perseus

Greek Pantheon

Hero who slew the Gorgon Medusa and rescued Andromeda from a sea monster. Son of Zeus and Danae, conceived when Zeus visited her as a shower of golden rain.

**Danae** was imprisoned by her father **Acrisius**, king of Argos, after an oracle prophesied that her son would kill him. Zeus entered her bronze chamber as golden rain and fathered Perseus. Acrisius set mother and child adrift in a chest, but they survived and washed ashore on the island of Seriphos.

**Perseus** is among the greatest of the Greek heroes, predating Heracles and representing the archetypal monster-slayer favored by the gods. His myths are preserved in Apollodorus's *Bibliotheca*, Ovid's *Metamorphoses*, and fragments of earlier traditions.

Rama

Hindu Pantheon

Seventh avatar of Vishnu and hero of the Ramayana epic. Ideal man, son, husband, and king. His life demonstrates perfect adherence to dharma (duty).

Born as prince of Ayodhya. Exiled for 14 years, during which his wife Sita was kidnapped by Ravana. With the help of Hanuman, he defeated Ravana and returned to rule as ideal king.

Rama is the seventh avatar of **Vishnu** and the hero of the **Ramayana** epic. Known as *Maryada Purushottama* ("the perfect man who follows dharma"), he embodies the ideals of virtue, duty, honor, and righteous conduct.
