Nippur (Nibru) is Enlil's city, the Ekur temple, where kingship of the land is religiously authorized even when political capitals sit elsewhere. Sumerian hymns and the Sumerian King List treat it as a cosmic office. It is not a creation battlefield like Babylon in Enuma Elish. Archaeology shows a long-lived scribal and temple center. Mythic narrative uses Nippur as the place Enlil's word binds. No hero-quest is required.
