Osiris's doorway
Abydos (Abdju) is Osiris's chief cult town. Early kings were buried nearby; later Egyptians built cenotaphs to lie near the god of the west. The Osiris mysteries and the processional route to Umm el-Qaab are cult fact. Pyramid Texts and later stelae call Osiris "Lord of Abydos." Seti I's temple writes the king-list on its walls. The underworld gate is liturgical here, not a cave you can enter with a torch.
