Ogygia, seven years off the map
Ogygia is Calypso's wooded isle in Odyssey 5: a cave, a hearth, alders and cypress, Hermes arriving with Zeus's order to release Odysseus. She has kept him seven years and offered immortality. He sits on the shore and weeps for Ithaca. There is no cult of Ogygia. Later guesses include Gozo. The island is delay as a goddess: comfort that is not home. Books 1 and 5 frame the poem with this captivity.
