Vishnu's spinning disk

The Mahabharata and the Puranas give Vishnu — and Krishna as his form — the Sudarshana chakra: a fiery, returning disk. Krishna beheads Śiśupāla with it; it can be sent after a foe. Vishvakarma as maker is a Puranic workshop note, not a Vedic hymn. Later tantric personification of Sudarshana as a separate deity is a further development; it is not the epic weapon's first shape. No archaeological chakra in a treasury is the original. The disk is Vaishnava epic and temple image.
