Anansi is one of Africa's most beloved figures, a cunning spider who uses intelligence and trickery to overcome impossible odds. He is the keeper of all stories, having purchased them from the sky god Nyame.
Nyame demanded four impossible tasks: capture Onini the python, Osebo the leopard, the Mmoboro hornets, and Mmoatia the invisible fairy. Through cleverness rather than strength, Anansi succeeded and earned ownership of all the world's stories.
Anansi traveled with enslaved Africans to the Americas, where his tales became foundational to Caribbean and African-American folklore. He represents the triumph of wit over power.
Anansi began as a humble spider but desired to own all the stories of the world. He bargained with the sky god Nyame, completing impossible tasks through cleverness.
