Camazotz

Mesoamerican Pantheon

The terrifying bat god of death and sacrifice. Camazotz dwells in the House of Bats in Xibalba, decapitating those who fail to survive the underworld's trials.

Camazotz was created or summoned by the Lords of Xibalba to guard the House of Bats and test those who entered the underworld.

Camazotz rules the House of Bats (Zotzilaha), one of the deadly trial houses in Xibalba. His giant form, obsidian blade wings, and hunger for blood make him one of the most feared beings in Maya mythology.

Hunahpu and Xbalanque

Mesoamerican Pantheon

The Hero Twins of Maya mythology, sons of the maize god Hun Hunahpu. Through cleverness and sacrifice, they defeated the lords of death and became the sun and moon.

The Hero Twins were miraculously conceived from their father's skull. Born in the upper world, they became great heroes who defeated false gods, outwitted the lords of death, and became the sun and moon.

Hunahpu and Xbalanque are the central heroes of the **Popol Vuh**. Their adventures feature monster-slaying, underworld journeys, death and resurrection, and the establishment of cosmic order.
