Crocodile at the Threshold of Water
Makara is the composite aquatic mount of Ganga and Varuna, and the vehicle-emblem of Kamadeva. Temple sculpture (Khajuraho, South Indian gopurams) shows a crocodile-elephant-fish hybrid more often than any single narrative hunt.
Read it as a threshold animal of sacred rivers, not as a named villain with a death-scene.
